Why are Mangroves important?

At rite., we aim to plant thousands of mangrove trees with your support. Your orders help us replenish the mangroves at the Mahabana estuary, which is 65 kilometers south of Mahajanga, a port in Madagascar.

Coastal ecosystems require mangroves to prevent erosion of sediment, preserve fisheries, promote biodiversity and protect against the ferocity of tsunamis and storms.

In addition, mangroves play a huge role in the absorption of CO2 and other greenhouse gases. They absorb more CO2 than any other kind of forest, trapping carbon dioxide in its roots and surrounding soil - not just for decades or centuries, but for millennia. Mangroves therefore can offset the carbon emissions we produce and lessen the effects of climate change.

They are key to our ecosystem and we need to take care of them!
